M Café is located in the Historic Central Jersey Railroad Station in Historic Midtown Elizabeth.
The original structure was designed by Bruce Price and completed in 1893. The station
was an integral part of the Elizabeth-Somerville Line and at one time was connected to lines running
from New York City to Allentown Pennsylvania.
The last trains operating from this building were The Blue Comet from Jersey City to Atlantic City and
the Scoot, from Bayonne to Cranford. The last train left this station in August of 1978.
The Building is listed on the National Register and with the State Historic Preservation Office.
It lay empty until the City of Elizabeth gave the exterior a face lift and constructed the Pedestrian Plaza
some twenty years later with the hopes of rejuvenating Historic Midtown Elizabeth.
Thanks to the City's help and vision, we have been able to transform the dormant Station to it's current
state. We were able to do this being mindful of it's Historic stature and preserve it's
integrity and original design.
We hope you will enjoy what we have created here, a place for friends to gather, enjoy our quality menu
creations, have a private party for a special occasion, use for a business meeting
or just relax and enjoy the atmosphere in one of Elizabeth's landmarks.
Elizabeth is a City with a rich history and we are pleased to be able to bring a piece of it's history back to life
and share it with you.
